We support strategic international collaboration. Please contact the International Partnerships Manager at [email protected] for advice on which fund suits your proposed project

For details of the latest calls and how to apply see our Global Funding Opportunities website .

Research and Innovation Services (RIS) is the technology transfer arm of the University. RIS promotes and supports the transfer of University expertise and knowledge into industry and other external organisations.

The RIS Current Funding Opportunities webpage highlights some of larger open calls which are available but there are many other sources of information – both directly from the funders and from other research fund databases.

Winning grants, awards and contracts

The market for research funding is getting increasingly competitive as it now makes up a much larger percentage of the total income for universities. However, at Southampton we have sustained our success in winning a large percentage of the available funding in the UK.

Our income from research grants and contracts increased by 8% from 2012 to 2013 – highlighting our strength in competing for research funding .

Our steady flow of major grants enables us to make sure that we have continual investment in equipment, the latest facilities and maintaining our buildings.

Investment from business

We currently work with over 300 businesses from around the world. Some collaborate with us in a research partnership, others sponsor a particular project or supply investment to a particular research area. We make an attractive investment partner for businesses from all sectors due to our emphasis on making sure that our research is applicable to the needs of the business world.

Research Excellence Framework (REF) results

The Research Excellence Framework is an independent body for measuring the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. The results of this framework play a large role in determining who should win certain grants and awards in order to maximise the potential for breakthroughs and innovations from investment.

View our results on the REF website.
