Chris Skinner 1953-2020
Professor Chris Skinner passed away on 21 February 2020. He had been suffering from cancer for some time. Chris played a big part in the development of statistics at Southampton, which he joined as a lecturer in 1978, and where he later obtained his PhD. He was involved in analysis of complex survey data, and later extended his researches to statistical disclosure control. He rose rapidly and was made Professor of Statistics in 1994. He acted as both Head of the Department of Social Statistics and Demography and Director of S3RI. In 2011 he moved to take up a position at the London School of Economics, but was still a regular visitor to Southampton. He will be much missed, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
Chris was recently interviewed for the International Statistical Review – see article here .
