Conference in memory of Fred Smith and Chris Skinner Event

Date:
7 - 9 July 2021
Venue:
University of Southampton.

Event details

Southampton, UK, 7-9 July 2021

University of Southampton will host a conference in memory of Fred (TMF) Smith and Chris Skinner, who both passed away during winter 2019/20. The conference is based around the themes that interested Fred and Chris during their research careers, including (but not limited to)

  • analysis and modelling of complex survey data
  • time series methods in the analysis of survey data
  • statistical disclosure control
  • official statistics

Several keynote speakers with associations to Fred and Chris have agreed to speak and their contributions will form one part of a special issue of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A (JRSS-A), which it is planned will appear later in 2021. The open call for contributions for the special issue and to the conference programme closed on 1 October 2020.

Conference information

We have reluctantly decided that the only practical way for the conference to take place is for it to be fully on-line, and we have therefore adjusted the dates slightly to 7-9 July 2021 from 10am to 4pm UK time. We will really miss the chance to see everyone for real, but hope that the on-line experience will nevertheless be a way to get together and to remember Fred and Chris and their contributions to statistics. Since the cost of an on-line conference is small, there will be no registration fee, but all attendees (including accepted presenters) must register here .

The conference is an official satellite meeting of the World Statistics Congress (WSC), which has already been made on-line.

Student competition

A student competition is running in association with the conference, closing date 31 May, details here .
