Monthly seminar series open to all disciplines of eighteenth-century study 1660-1820 showcasing ongoing and developing research at University of Southampton. Undergrads, postgrads and stall all welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
Abstract
This paper is based on an essay in progress, on symbolic and cultural uses of plants in eighteenth-century Britain and North America. It ranges from Linnaeus to Erasmus Darwin, from weeds to the politics of flower gardens, and from Biblical figs to unseen exotics.
