For our final episode, we were honoured to be joined by internationally renowned comedian, mental health expert, best-selling author and Chancellor of the University of Southampton Ruby Wax OBE, to talk about the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and how we need to change the conversation post-pandemic.

Highly successful comedian, presenter, author and prominent mental health speaker, Ruby Wax combines neuroscience, mindfulness and comedy in her tours and books, helping the world to find calm in this hectic 21st century. She holds a Master’s degree in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy from Oxford University, is a highly accclaimed TED talker and was awarded an OBE for her services to mental health. The best-selling author is also the founder of Frazzled Cafés, a ‘talk-in’ place where people who are feeling frazzled can meet on a regular basis and share their personal stories in a safe, anonymous and non-judgmental environment, currently being rolled out in M&S cafes. Ruby Wax is breaking down mental health taboos and making neuroscience accessible and interesting.

Practicing mindfulness trains the interception of the brain and there are really positive results of this as the parasympathetic system is affected. Some day I hope a tech company comes up with a mental fit bit that can get a read out of what is going on in our heads. What will be most important in twenty years will be resilience, emotional intelligence and compassion.
