The Higher Responsibility Zone (HRZ) is a discretionary pay zone above the core pay ranges at Levels 1 to 5 in the University's grading structure. The HRZ enables staff at the top of a specific level to be remunerated appropriately if and when they are required to assume significant additional responsibilities. A Responsibility Allowance may be used where staff at Level 6 are required to assume significant additional responsibilities.
The HRZ is used where a role's requirements aren’t enough to warrant a re-grade to the next level, yet it’s clear that the role holder is assuming responsibilities over and above the 'norm' for the role level.
