Title: Scalarization of compact objects

Abstract: It has always been a challenge to reconcile a particular
alternative theory of gravity with the weak field observations since
this regime is tested with remarkable accuracy. There exist classes of
extended scalar-tensor theories, though, that are perturbatively
equivalent to general relativity in the weak field regime while
leading to nonlinear development of a scalar field for strong gravity,
that is the so-called scalarization. This offers the opportunity to
test the strong-field regime of gravity from a new perspective using
astrophysical observations. In the present talk, we will discuss some
of the most interesting scalarized neutron star and black hole
solutions. We will also focus on the dynamics of such objects and
their astrophysical implications.
