Title: Quantum Computing for Gravitational Wave Astronomy
Abstract: Gravitational wave astronomy has advanced rapidly and remarkably since the first, Nobel Prize-winning detection of a gravitational wave from the merger of two black holes in 2015. As existing LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network upgrades and the next-generation detectors come online in the next decade, current data analysis techniques are bottlenecked by high computational demands. In this talk, I will introduce a (first) quantum computing algorithm for gravitational wave parameter estimation, the extraction of source properties. Our initial work demonstrates that quantum computing offers promising potential to tackle these data analysis challenges.
