If you are studying a course at degree level or above e.g. Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD
You do not need to provide academic documents because the University of Southampton is a Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance.
If you are studying a course below degree level
You need to provide the academic documents used to make you an offer.
The academic documents you must provide are written in CAS statement section: Evidence used to obtain offer.
If any of your documents are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a certified translation. Certified translations must include:
- Confirmation that: “This is an accurate translation of the original document”
- Date of translation
- Full name of translator
- Signature of translator
- Contact details of translator or translation company
- Details of the translator or translation company’s credentials (qualification as a translator or registration as a professional translator)

To apply for a Student visa, you need to prepare enough money to pay your tuition fees and living costs while you are studying in the UK. This is in addition to the cost of applying for a Student visa.
Who needs to prepare evidence to meet the financial requirement?
Outside the UK, you must provide financial evidence for your visa application.
Inside the UK, if you have been in the UK with immigration permission for less than 12 months on the date of your Student visa application, you must provide financial evidence.
Students who does not need to provide evidence to meet the financial requirement?
If you are from an exempt country, you do not need to provide financial evidence when you apply for your Student visa but should prepare it.
If you have been living in the UK with immigration permission for 12 months or more on the date of your Student visa application, you will meet the financial requirement and do not need to show financial evidence.
Students applying for a Student visa as a Student Union Sabbatical Officer, will meet the financial requirement and do not need to show financial evidence.

If you are applying for your Student visa outside the UK, you will need to have a Tuberculosis (TB) test at a Home Office approved clinic if:
- you have been living in any of the countries listed on https://www.gov.uk/tb-test-visa for the 6 months immediately before you apply for your Student visa; and
- programme of study longer than 6 months
If your test shows that you do not have TB, you'll be given a certificate which is valid to be used for a visa application for 6 months.

Select “Taught/Research student” in your application.
If ATAS is required, you must get this before you apply for your Student visa. You will need to include your ATAS clearance certificate reference number as part of your visa application.

If you have completed a course in the UK for which you received financial sponsorship from a Government or international scholarship agency covering tuition fees and living costs in the 12 months before you apply for your Student visa, you need written consent to the visa application from your Government or scholarship agency.
