A significant portion of the heat supplied to the Jubilee Sports Centre swimming pool was found to be lost through evaporation, which also caused high humidity levels in the area surrounding the pool. Carbon Management Plan funds were used to install a pool cover, which would reduce evaporation and the level of humidity when the pool was not in use. By reducing the loss of heat from the pool, the heat supply could be reduced to achieve substantial gas savings. The reduced humidity has also produced additional electrical savings, as the operation of extract fans could be reduced.
The project resulted in an annual saving of 169,000kWh, £5,000 and 31 tonnes/CO 2 .
