The amount of heat loss from a building is dependent on how well insulated it is. Windows can be a major cause of heat loss, so to reduce this loss, draught proofing sealant has been applied to windows in several buildings across the University. The improved thermal insulation allows the heating to be on for less time and at a lower temperature, which helps to save gas.
This project has resulted in an annual saving of 2,950,000kWh, £88,500 and 540 tonnes/CO 2 .
