Technicians at the University of Southampton are recognised for their contributions to research via authorship or acknowledgement as appropriate. In 2021 we published our Fair Attribution Guidance document, to highlight the benefits of including technicians in conversations around publication, and to enable researchers and their technical colleagues to engage in these important conversations.
Our guidance document works in conjunction with the University’s Authorship, Contribution and Publishing Policy, with examples of the types of work that would constitute authorship or acknowledgement; links to resources to aid decision making in authorship conversations; and a checklist of topics that researchers should consider when working with their technical colleagues on a research project.
