The age of AI jazz is dawning. Huge advances in computing power and machine learning technology mean that algorithms can now improvise in the style of the jazz greats. Has another classic human activity been “taken over” by computers? Or is future jazz going to be a ‘social machine’ where people and machines work together to create great music?
Join jazz stars Julian Argüelles (saxophone) and Jasper Høiby (bass), Southampton’s new professional jazz ensemble the Dan Mar-Molinero Jazz Orchestra and their special guest the Jazz Transformer Algorithm from Taiwan to find out. The event includes a roundtable discussion featuring the artists in conversation with Dame Wendy Hall, Regius Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton, and Dr Thomas Irvine, Associate Professor in Music and Turing Fellow, followed by a concert of jazz standards like you might not have heard them before.
4pm - Join us for a roundtable discussion chaired by Dr Thomas Irvine, Associate Professor in Music and Turing Fellow with Jasper Høiby, Julian Argüelles and Dan Mar-Molinero. Featuring special guest Dame Wendy Hall FRS, Regius Professor of Computer Science, University of Southampton.
