Dr Andreas Franck Dr.-Ing., Dipl.-Inf.
Visiting Researcher
Dr Andreas Franck is a Visiting Academic at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
Andreas graduated in Computer Science from the Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany in 2001. From 2004 to 2014 he has been the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT (Germany), were he worked as a research assistant and software architect. His main areas of work were spatial audio reproduction, in particular wave field synthesis (WFS) and related techniques as well as loudspeaker beamforming.
In 2011 he obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany. His PhD thesis considers signal processing methods for asynchronous sampling rate conversion and their application to wave field synthesis.
In 2014 he joined the Virtual Acoustics and Audio Engineering Group within the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), where he is primarily involved in the EPSRC-funded project S3A – Future Spatia Audio for an Immersive Listener Experience. Within this project, he is primarily concerned with the theoretical and practical development of spatial audio reproduction systems, representation and transmission of object-based sound scenes, and the architecture and implementation of software frameworks for spatial audio research.
