Biography
Diane Carpenter is a lecturer in Mental Health Studies at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southampton. She teaches on a wide range of mental health related subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level including assessment and risk assessment, mental health law, ethics, psychopharmacology, evidence-based practice and medical history. Her research interests are particularly focussed on mental health care and treatment in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She has published and/or presented on the past, present and future of mental health nursing, the history of mental health care, training in forensic mental health care settings, the management of aggression, and evidence-based practice. She is a member of the International Society for the History of Medicine; The Society for the Social History of Medicine; The History and Policy Network, and a Local Research Ethics Committee.
