School of Art West Wing opens at Winchester Guildhall
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is delighted to announce Winchester West Wing, the latest addition to the University’s Winchester campus, open from Monday 17 October.
Winchester West Wing will house the delivery of leading-edge fashion education, providing dedicated space for Fashion students conveniently located in the centre of the historic city, and walking distance from the Winchester School of Art main campus on Park Avenue.
The development is an investment in the importance of Arts and Humanities education and the opportunity for interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange.
Four storeys have been converted into purpose-built space in the iconic building that was previously used as council offices.
The Grade II listed building was first built in the late 1800’s by local architect JB Colsen, with the West Wing being built in 1890 as the original base for Winchester School of Art.
The stone engraving with the name School of Art remains above the West Wing entrance.
Dr Yasmin K. Sekhon Dhillon – Head of Department Fashion and Textiles said:
“We are extremely delighted with Winchester West Wing, especially because of its historic connections with Winchester School of Art. This space will be central in the development of key projects, debates and initiatives that encapsulate the future of fashion.”
