WSA Social Content Creators: Embedding Employability
In February 2022, we launched WSA Social, an internship project to centre the student voice across social channels at WSA, University of Southampton.
At WSA, we are dedicated to improving the student experience and enhancing employability. WSA Social launched in Feb 2022. Students can apply for paid opportunities to become ‘Content Creators, using their taught digital skills, knowledge and creativity to create digital strategies across our Instagram, TikTok Facebook, Youtube & Twitter channels.
WSA Social supports students' development of taught digital marketing and, specifically, content creation skills; gaining professional experience working alongside internal and external teams at the university. Embedding students in this project means the student's voice is amplified across our communications, whilst being paid and enhancing both CVs and professional portfolio.
The current internship team of four students work with an experienced marketing academic colleague and the faculty marketing department. Using an industry-facing content management system they plan and develop strategic content that features live events, student success stories, programme activities and ‘day in the life of …’ stories. This initiative supports the development of skills in digital marketing strategy, editing, content management, film-making, teamwork, collaboration organisation and team working—all fantastic professional skills for their future CVs.
