The White Project - MA Fashion Design x Materials Lab
This March – April, the White Project was displayed at Winchester School of Art campus . The exhibition showcased MA Fashion Design garments that were created using zero-waste techniques for the White Project.
The exhibition, curated by Delia Crowe and staff and students from MA Fashion Design, showed the garments suspended from the ceiling across the West Side Foyer creating a dramatic and immersive experience.
An annual project, the White Project tasks students with using one material and one colour – white Tyvek, a synthetic, non-woven material that is resistant to water and ageing and is 100% recyclable and inexpensive.
The material is chosen so that students can focus on exploring silhouette, proportion, and construction, whilst considering contextual global issues currently being debated - such as sustainability, responsibility, and the environment.
This is a new way of working for most students. All final outcomes must be zero-waste resulting in an astonishing variety and quality of work.
