Miss Jiayi Fang
Visiting Postgraduate research student
Miss Jiayi Fang is a Visiting Postgraduate research student for Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
I am visiting Southampton because of the expertise in coastal studies.
I am visiting the University of Southampton from Beijing Normal University (BNU) between January 2016 and July 2017. I completed undergraduate study (2009-2013) in Marine Science (Physical oceanography) from Ocean University of China. Most of courses I have taken related to oceanography, meteorology, engineering, mathematics and physics. In Beijing, I am a PhD student (2013-2018) where I am studying Natural Disaster in the Academy of Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management in BNU. After learning disasters and risk, my research interests focus on natural disasters and risk in coastal areas.
I participated the Young Scientist Summer Program 2015 hosted by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), working as Research Assistant in the Risk, Policy and Vulnerability (RPV) group. My research topic there was “Coastal disasters in China: impacts and resilience”.
