Dr Puramharikrishnan Arun Lakshmynarayanana Msc Naval Architecture
Adjunct Fellow
Arun is an Adjunct Fellow in the Fluid Structure Interactions Group. His research focuses on investigating models of ship performance and fuel efficiency in weather and approaches to test and develop those using in-service operational data.
Hydroelasticity of Ships
Education
Arun completed his bachelor’s degree in B.E. Marine Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, India. From 2009-2010 he pursued Masters in Naval Architecture at Newcastle University, which he graduated with distinction. He started his PhD in the year 2013 in Fluid Structure Interactions Research Group at the University of Southampton and was awarded a PhD degree in 2017. His research focused on Hydroelastic investigations of ships in waves by applying a coupling between CFD/RANS and FEA software to model the 3-D dynamic behaviour of large ocean vessels in waves.
Industrial Experience
Arun started his career as a marine engineer with Wilhelmsen Ship management from 2004-2009, the last being in the capacity of a 3rd engineer. He was responsible for the operation and maintenance of machineries on board ships. After completion of his Masters he worked as a structural analyst in GTR Cambell (India office). He was involved in finite element analysis and vibration analysis of bulk carriers, fast patrol vessels and an FPSO conversion project.
