In accordance with the University’s induction policy , apprentices must be provided with an effective programme of induction in their first weeks of employment. Line managers must tailor induction programmes to address the specific needs of the apprentice, and particular attention should be paid to supporting those entering employment for the first time.
It is important to remember that young people may not have had a formal job before and may need some additional pastoral support to settle into the workplace and to reach their potential. See the guidance here for more information on supporting young apprentices.
Similarly, managers are responsible for ensuring that apprentices are provided with appropriate support and development opportunities during their probation period, as defined in the University’s probation policy
The apprentice’s line manager, and wider management chain, will be responsible for day-to-day management of the apprentice, as they would with any other employee. Additional guidance may also be available from the appointed training provider.
Any changes to the apprenticeship arrangement (e.g. pauses or early cessation of the apprenticeship) must be notified to the HR Transactions Team via ServiceNow . On receipt of the notification, the HR Transactions Team will update the digital Apprenticeship Service to notify the Training Provider and to ensure that further claims against the apprenticeship levy are stopped.
For more information on managing apprentices see the Government's guidance here .
