"As a former Chair of the Faculty of Medicine Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team, and current Chair of the University Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team, I am very committed to doing all that I can to promote equality and diversity within Medicine. In my current role as Dean, I will work with the SAT to recognise and remove barriers to progression and gender equality and to champion diversity across the Faculty. The experiences from Medicine will continue to serve as exemplars to the wider University community."

INCLUSIVITY

Success has no gender

Medicine at Southampton is fully committed to the Athena SWAN Charter that recognises a commitment to addressing gender inequalities. Our involvement in the Athena Swan project is to improve career progression for female academics in science, engineering and technology disciplines in higher education and research in Southampton Medicine. The project aims to tackle an uneven representation of women in science and as a result achieve a significant increase in the number of women recruited to top posts. Southampton Medicine was delighted to be awarded a Silver Athena SWAN award in April 2015 in recognition of our continued efforts to support the career aspirations of female medical scientists. Medicine has been actively engaged with Athena SWAN for a number of years both by supporting the University's Bronze applications and through STEM activities.
