Lucy Ede MSc International Relations, 2019
Studying for a master’s degree definitely increased my confidence. I have been able to engage with and gain an understanding of subjects that have wider relevance, which affect me every day.
The MSc International Politics course offered the variety that I was looking for; interdisciplinary study, and a wide range of subjects even within disciplines. I was able to tailor my module choices to fit with my future career.
The lecturers enthusiasm makes classes really engaging. The interdisciplinary nature of the course allows you to learn from lecturers with expertise in different areas, encouraging the development of a well-rounded knowledge base, and an opportunity to think critically from and about different perspectives. Participation within seminars is encouraged, which at first seems daunting, but it is really a safe space to help you to develop your thoughts and engage with the subject matter more deeply.
I took the opportunity to work for a charity through one of the university’s Excel Internships. This was a great experience that will enhance my CV – it really opened my eyes to the fact that there are ways to help the local community that make the most of your skillset.
