Rebecca Pryce BSc Politics and International Relations, 2011
Private Secretary at Department for International Trade (DIT)
Hi, I'm Rebecca Pryce and I studied BSc Politics and International Relations within Social Sciences: Politics & International Relations at the University of Southampton.
I got my internship because of Southampton's reputation. It has really offered the next step for me.
Q: Why did you choose to study in Southampton?
I come from New Zealand, but I've been living in Exeter where my family live. I knew Southampton had a really good reputation and I came up for an open day here. The lecturers were really engaging and really passionate about politics, so it was a place I knew I wanted to study.
Q: What has your experience been like studying here?
It's been really fantastic. Our lecturers, especially in the third year, have been fantastic, and the Division is now top notch. I got the opportunity to study in America for a semester, which was one of the best experiences of my life, so it's opened up lots of different opportunities and avenues.
Q: What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at Southampton?
I'm currently doing an internship in London with a company who deal with the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, I got the internship because of the reputation of Southampton and also because I got a First. It has really offered the next step for me.
Q: What career would you like to get in to?
I'd really like to get into the Foreign Office, and because it's really competitive I'm trying to specialise in disarmament and nuclear weapons and go in that way.
Q: Any other comments?
It's a fantastic university. It's beautiful being here and being able to walk around here, and because it's outside the town it's a really close-knit community. I think the lecturers in the Division at the moment are really fantastic and for the next few years the students are really lucky.
