CAS stands for C onfirmation of A cceptance for S tudies.
You need a CAS number to apply for a Student visa.
The CAS number is a unique alphanumeric code that links to a virtual document on the UK Visa & Immigration (UKVI) online Sponsorship Management System.
The CAS statement is information about you and your intended programme of study contained in the virtual document shared with UKVI.
Each CAS is institution and programme specific. That means that a CAS issued by the University of Southampton can only be used in a Student visa application for study at Southampton on the programme of study for which the CAS was issued.

A joint CAS or 'single' CAS is a CAS that is issued to cover a student's Pre-sessional and substantive (main) course of study. The University is able to issue a joint under the following conditions:
If a student is taking a Pre-sessional course to meet the English language admissions requirement for entry onto their substantive (main) programme of study, they must have a UKVI approved SELT to evidence their English language proficiency.
If a student has been unconditionally accepted ie met all offer requirements for their substantive (main) course of study including the University's English language admissions requirement and has chosen to take a Pre-sessional programme of study, a UKVI SELT is not required.
