  Entry requirements

This information is for general guidance only; entry requirements vary for different courses. For more specific details, please visit the relevant course web page or contact the admissions office for your chosen subject area .

Foundation year entry requirements

Engineering Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in engineering, physics, computer science and geophysics) National Senior High School Certificate (for both two and three years), achieving an overall 85% with 85% in maths and physics.
Science Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in biology, chemistry and other science-related courses)  

National Senior High School Certificate (three years) achieving 80% overall, with 80% in both biology and chemistry. Students completing two years should achieve 85% overall with 85% in biology and chemistry.

Please note that this course does not progress to an undergraduate degree in medicine.

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

UK A levels obtained in China
International Baccalaureate (IB): Between 28 and 38 points
First year of a relevant degree from a highly ranked Chinese university, with an average grade of at least 75-88 %

  Postgraduate entry requirements

Most of our Masters programmes require you to achieve equivalent to a 2.1. Bachelors degree awarded by a high ranked Chinese university with an average grade of at least 70-88%, dependent on awarding institution.

  The Chinese student community

We are pleased to welcome students from China to the University each year. In recent years, we have over 3,000 Chinese students studying with us each year.

Student-run clubs and societies

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups. You may be interested in joining the Chinese Student Scholar Association.

Chinese student community

Before I started this MSc, I had been working in Tianjin Environmental Protection Agency, China, for more than five years. The University of Southampton's reputation for teaching and research motivated me to spend one year at Southampton. I really enjoyed my MSc although it is hard work.
