..This idea that the world would end became 'popular' because of the film '2012' is based on the misinterpretation of the Mayan Calendar which unlike our calender lasts for many years as opposed to one year at a time..it just happens to end in December 2012, after which a new calendar will start...so no need to be alarmed !'...for the long, more detailed answer see the blogs/articles below:
