The Sunday Times University Guide 2008
The University of Southampton has been short listed for The Sunday Times University of the Year award, and remains the top university on the south coast according to The Sunday Times University Guide 2008
Southampton also climbed four places to 12th in this year’s Sunday Times university league table to earn its second short listing for University of the Year, following its previous success in 2002.
According to the press release issued by the Sunday Times last week: “A degree from Southampton is a strong platform for job hunting after graduation – only 5.5% are unemployed within six months of leaving. The university is in the middle of an investment programme which will pump £236m into maintaining and developing its Southampton campuses. Last year the university opened a research centre for the developmental origins of health and disease at Southampton general hospital. The main Highfield campus has seen a new students’ union, library and the excellent Jubilee sports centre transform the student experience. The fruits of this investment can be seen in a dropout rate of 5.3%, close to half the expected level.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Bill Wakeham said: “We are delighted at this excellent endorsement of the quality of education and the student experience here.”
