Southampton City lecture, 14 January 2009

The cultural, social and economic impact of the London 2012 games is the focus of the annual Southampton City Lecture, which is taking place on Wednesday 14 January at the Turner Sims Concert Hall.

Mary McAnally, Chair of Sport England’s South East Sports Board and the South East’s Regional Representative on 2012’s Nations and Regions Group, presents ‘Southampton and London 2012 – The challenge, the benefits and the future’.

Mary will discuss the potential for Southampton to take advantage of the opportunities arising from the 2012 Games for the economy and people of the region. It will examine how the city can build on the strengths of the region; to develop its business base, involve local communities, drive up sports participation and inspire young people to be the best that they can be.

The lecture will aim to stimulate discussion about the challenges faced by the city to create a powerful and positive legacy that extends from sport to economic development, regeneration, skills, employment, culture and tourism.

The event starts with a buffet reception at 5.15pm and the lecture starts at 6pm. This is a ticket only event. For tickets, please call the Turner Sims box office on 023 8059 5151 or email: [email protected].
