University looks forward to its third waste audit

Student volunteers will be doing their bit for the environment by sorting through the rubbish we throw out. On Wednesday 25 February about 50 students will be sorting through a sample of the general waste we send to landfill. The audit will cover all campuses and Halls of Residence. Simon Kemp, lecturer in School of Environmental Sciences, said, “The last two audits have been extremely successful, mainly because of the enthusiasm and dedication of our students. We’re expecting this year’s audit to be even better”.

The data we collect from the audit is essential to find out what recyclable material we’re throwing out in our general waste. This waste could be diverted from landfill and we will be using the information to target those areas of the University who need help to recycle more.
