A University of Southampton postgraduate student ‚ who recently returned from Washington DC‚ has a confirmed case of human swine flu.
It is to his credit that this student has shown exemplary behaviour‚ in line with Department of Health advice‚ which has minimised risk to the University community. The student quarantined himself immediately on becoming unwell‚ was diagnosed at home and has only had contact with the University via telephone.
The student, who lives alone in private accommodation, is fine and displaying only mild cold-like symptoms. He is in contact with representatives from the University’s Wellbeing team and with his personal tutor.
The University is still operating as normal. The University has adequate plans and measures in place to deal with the situation.
