Student Services invites you to attend a seminar about ‘Meeting Employer Needs: Applying the DACUM Approach to UG / PGT Curriculum Design’ on Friday 17th September 2010 from 12.15-14.00 Nightingale Building, Room E1001 (Lecture Room C).
Presented by Dr George Lueddeke, Senior Lecturer in Medical Education, School of Medicine.
DACUM is an acronym that stands for developing a curriculum. Originating in Canada, it has become a preferred approach for analysing employer short and long- competency expectations, thereby potentially enhancing student employability. The process is cost–effective, efficient and highly reliable.
Features of the seminar will include:
-Considering the implications of the coalition Government’s policy directions for Higher Education outlined in Higher Ambitions
– Contextualising DACUM in the curriculum design process
– Outlining how the process works in terms of new programme developments, it’s potential for programme or course reviews and role of facilitators
– Reviewing DACUM’s strengths in terms of employer collaboration, developing flexible curriculum delivery and personalising learning as well as the application of a unique assessment approach

Members of staff who are interested in learning about an innovative curriculum design approach that directly engages employers / regulatory bodies that can lead to optimising student employment prospects.
