Are you a potential nominee for the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme 2011?

The University is keen to identify and committed to supporting up to three applicants for the 2011 Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellowship Scheme‚ following the success of Simon Kemp and Mike Wald in 2010 and Faith Hill in 2009. Find out more at an introductory workshop on 5 November.

These awards are intended for Fellows’ professional development in teaching and learning or aspects of pedagogy. Funded by HEFCE, up to 55 awards of £10,000 are made to recognise individual excellence.

Applicants must be supported by their institution and each institution can support up to three applicants per year. A panel chaired by Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Debra Humphris in December 2010 will determine which candidates to support for submission in 2011.

Preparation and support

The initial lunch-time workshop on 5 November, from 1-2pm in the LATEU training room is for all interested staff to learn more about the scheme. The workshop will explain the process of applying for the award and provide guidance on the criteria and requirements.  It will be an informal, interactive event, with plenty of time for questions. Lunch will be provided. Please inform Julie Balcombe by 29 October if you wish to attend the workshop  ([email protected]).

Potential applicants will need to submit a provisional application, in a similar format to HEA requirements, and up to 4 sides of A4 in length, to Kerry Mallery by 1 December 2010 ([email protected]). Applicants should attach a short supporting paragraph from a relevant Deputy Head of School, Associate Dean or equivalent.

From January to March 2011, support for finalising applications will be offered by Faith, Mike and Simon for applicants selected to go forward in the 2011 round.  A professional editor who has worked with the team will also be involved at this stage.
