The University closed during Thursday and on Friday last week as a result of poor weather. These days were not formal staff holidays. The University made the decision on Thursday that the majority of staff should be sent home and on Friday‚ advised not to attend for health and safety reasons. Staff were encouraged in these circumstances to work from home‚ if practicable. Some staff were asked to work at the University where they were responsible for essential services.
Staff who were on leave Thursday and/or Friday or needed to take emergency carers leave were clearly not available for work and there was no expectation that these staff would work on these days.
Therefore, to be consistent, staff who worked on these days will not receive additional recompense – although their efforts are really appreciated; staff who were on booked leave on these days have taken that leave; those who only work on days other than Thursday or Friday were not affected by these decisions.
