Opportunity to train as a mediator

The University’s Mediation Service provides trained‚ accredited mediators to act as independent facilitators and help resolve disputes that involve staff or students.

The service wishes to recruit around 4 additional members of staff to join the existing team. This will involve attending a three day training course from 7–9 March 2011 at the University.

Mediators need to have good listening and communications skills and have the ability to be independent and impartial, as well as an interest in conflict resolution.

To be eligible to train as a mediator and join the Mediation Service you must:

• Be available to attend the training course on 7–9 March 2011

• Provide a written application‚ setting out any relevant background experience and explaining why you think you would make a good mediator

• Have the consent of your Head of School, Head of Professional Service or other appropriate manager to attend the training and participate in the Mediation Service

• Be prepared to make yourself available to act as a co-mediator at least 3 days per year

• Provide a written recommendation from your line manager or another suitable referee from within the University.
