Vice-Chancellor Don Nutbeam signs an agreement to set up a branch campus of the University in Malaysia

Earlier today‚ Vice–Chancellor Professor Don Nutbeam announced:

“I am pleased to tell you‚ from Kuala Lumpur‚ that at approximately 4am this morning (UK time) I signed an agreement to set up a University of Southampton Malaysia Campus in the Iskandar region.

Whilst there is still much planning to do‚ the campus is currently scheduled to open in 2012. The intention is initially to offer undergraduate courses in engineering for an intake of 60 students. The campus will be established in EduCity‚ which is a development comprising of international universities‚ schools and colleges‚ and other traditional campus facilities.

You will be aware that as part of our internationalisation strategy, we are developing relationships with like–minded and talented individuals and organisations in countries around the world. All of these efforts reflect our ambition to raise our reputation globally with potential students and collaborators‚ in industry‚ business‚ research and education.

More details will follow as the planning steps up now that we have signed this agreement. I recognise some staff will already have questions, especially those who may be involved in this development. These can be directed to [email protected].”
