Mindfulness: How it works, where it works – 1 March 2011

The Mental Health Group of the Faculty of Medicine and the Research and Development Unit of Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce a joint one–day conference‚ to be held on 1 March 2011‚ at the Hilton Hotel in Southampton.

The conference aims to provide a timely review of the psychological and biological mechanisms involved in mindfulness and to highlight research studies and other evaluations of the use of mindfulness in clinical practice‚ including applications outside of mental health services. The latter will include talks relating to applications of mindfulness in breast cancer and prostate cancer.

The programme includes plenary lectures from two distinguished external speakers‚ together with talks from academic and clinical staff based in Southampton. Oral presentations within parallel symposia will highlight current research studies being undertaken by researchers based within the University and Trust. Service user perspectives are also included. There will even be an opportunity for mindfulness ‘novices’ to participate in introductory sessions, designed to provide a feel for mindfulness techniques and how they might be applied in clinical practice.

If you wish to know more about the conference, where it will be held, who will be speaking, and how to register for attendance please visit: http://www.soton.ac.uk/mind/
