Southampton students will be among the first in the world to enjoy a live‚ interactive‚ high definition broadcast when the record–breaking Southampton University Students’ Union (SUSU) Election Results night takes place tonight (Thursday).
The results will be broadcast live in HD at www.susu.org and www.susu.tv from 9pm in the Students’ Union and will be a world first for much of the technology and interactivity from any Students’ Union.
This year new technology (supplied by Inqb8r.tv) will enable students to watch via mobile devices, including iPhones and iPads, as well as some truly live interactive features, including live viewer voting, gender specific advertising breaks and social media interaction via Twitter feeds. Also new for this year is a live audience for the Election Night Show. The main event starts at 8pm with broadcast beginning at 9pm..
The show, which is expected to reach over 10,000 viewers, will also stream to student halls of residence and users will get a fully interactive experience via the website player, which will broadcast from www.susu.org and www.susu.tv
Charlotte Woods, Vice President Media & Communications for SUSU, comments: “SUSUtv have set themselves ambitious targets this year after seeing 6,000 people tune in live last year. It is so important that students vote for the candidates who will best represent them, given the difficult times ahead set for students in terms of fees and funding. We hope to reach as many students as possible and once again break the UK record for student voting numbers.”
The SUSU Election campaigns have been taking place all week with 30 candidates for the seven full-time, paid Sabbatical Officer positions and the voluntary Union Trustee roles canvassing their fellow students for their votes.
The SUSU Elections received the highest turnout of student voters of any UK university and had a record 7,156 number of votes in 2010.
