Information for Libyan students

The University recognises that some of our students may be significantly impacted by their home country of Libya becoming an area of political unrest and conflict.

If you have been personally affected by any issue or event in your home country‚ or if you are concerned about your own circumstances and need practical advice regarding travel home‚ your student visa or your sponsors status/stipend payments please contact the Student Services Centre to make an appointment with one of the advisors. The team can advise you on your circumstances and provide details of relevant embassies or national information centres to assist with getting in touch with friends or family.

You can either come directly into the SSC on Highfield campus, call us on 023 8059 9599 or email us at [email protected]. The team will be able to give you more information about support available to you.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have advised against all travel to Libya. You should continue to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for further updates; please visit http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/ . Please note that the Libyan Embassy has temporarily suspended activities, you are advised to call 021 3403644 or 020 7008 6865 for the latest information.

Students concerned regarding the implications on any Visa application should contact the Visa Guidance team via the SSC for direct advice relating to their particular circumstances. General advice is that the University will support a student’s visa application by writing a covering letter regarding the situation in their home country and the difficulties this has caused them in producing verified documentation.

If you find yourself in financial hardship as a direct result of events within Libya, for instance if your sponsor is unable to continue your sponsorship, or you find yourself unable to pay for living costs due to being unable to access normal funding or banking arrangements, please contact the Student Services Centre on 02380 599599 who can advise on how you may be able to access emergency funding.
