Registrar Appointment

Following a nationally competitive recruitment process‚ the Chair of Council has approved the appointment of Tessa Harrison as the University’s Registrar.

Tessa will join the University in August 2011‚ from the University of West England (UWE)‚ where she is currently Academic Registrar and Clerk to Governors. In her current role she has led a number of cross–institutional projects including a substantial change programme to deliver a new‚ integrated Academic Registry. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Association of University Administrators‚ a member of the Academic Registrar’s Council, and a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration – roles she intends to continue after her move to Southampton.

Tessa holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology and English from Lancaster University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Women’s Studies from Anglia Polytechnic University.  In 1993 she joined Lancaster University as Head of the Undergraduate Registry and from 2000 was Head of the Teaching Quality Support Office before joining UWE in her current role.

Tessa commented on her appointment: “The University of Southampton is an internationally renowned institution and I am proud to have the opportunity to contribute to its continued progress.”

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam, said: “I am delighted at Tessa’s appointment which comes at one of the most crucial times in our sector. She has the skills and experience that the University needs to deliver its ambitious strategy during an unsettling period of change.”
