On 11 May‚ the University signed a new co-operation agreement with Brazilian research funding body FAPESP. The collaboration enables the development of joint research projects between Southampton and universities in the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil‚ which are eligible for FAPESP funding. At the same time‚ the first call for proposals under the agreement was launched.
Professor Mark Spearing, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), signed the agreement and launched the call on behalf of the University of Southampton in an event in Sao Paulo, accompanied by Professor Sir John Beddington, the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor. Under the call, grants of up to £5,000 will be available to each side (Southampton and the Brazilian University) to fund for travel (air tickets), health insurance, and living allowances for Southampton researchers to visit Sao Paulo and vice-versa. The call covers research in all disciplines.
