Warhol Uncovered?

Two-Day Conference

Organised by the John Hansard Gallery

17th and 18th June 2011 – 10am–4pm

Venue: University of Southampton Building 46 (Physics), Lecture Theatre A (Room 3001)

This two-day conference is open to all Warhol enthusiasts – whether you’re an undergraduate or postgraduate student, or a member of the general public. Although much has been said about Andy Warhol, he remains one of the 20th century’s most elusive artists. The conference aims to investigate the major themes in the artist’s work such as fame, consumerism and death, and asks “can Warhol be uncovered?” Each day a Keynote speaker will present an illuminating approach to Warhol’s work to help motivate critical thought throughout the conference. The keynote speech will be followed by a selection of innovative papers by UK and international students. On the second day the academic sessions of the conference will close with a plenary discussion which questions whether Warhol has been uncovered?
