The 2nd Annual Student Transition to Living and Learning Workshop will take place on Monday 27th June 2011 in the Nightingale Building on the Highfield Campus from 10.30am until 4.00pm. All members of staff in the University interested in supporting our undergraduate and masters students in the transition to life at University are very welcome.
The day will commence with the spotlight on five of the 2010–11 Transition to Living and Learning projects. After the buffet lunch there will be four parallel workshop sessions:
• Supporting pre-sessional students in the transition to their programme of study (Centre for Language Study and Management leading the discussion)
• Helping our students to be better informed pre-arrival (eLanguages, Medicine, Health Sciences, Modern Languages leading the discussion)
• The challenges of group work for new students (Medicine and Management leading the discussion)
• Making the transition to study a subject that you have not previously studied (Health Sciences leading the discussion)
If you know of any colleagues who would be able to make a contribution to any of these topics, please e-mail Sarah Rogers ([email protected]).
The day will finish with a panel discussion, whereby six teachers from a variety of sixth forms will share their perspectives on the gap between sixth form and university.
Attendance is free and buffet lunch will be included, so it would be helpful if you could confirm your attendance for catering purposes to Marta Cecconi ([email protected]).
A full Project website is currently in development, but in the meantime you can view more information about the project more generally and the workshop on the Education Sharepoint site: https://sharepoint.soton.ac.uk/sites/ese/transitions_project/default.aspx
