Chernobyl – Science, Myths and the Media – Free talk at the John Hansard Gallery

Chernobyl expert Dr Jim Smith from the University of Portsmouth will discuss the risks of radioactivity and how the media influences our perception of these risks in a talk at the John Hansard Gallery on Thursday 28 July‚ 6–7pm.

Dr Smith is Reader in Environmental Physics at Portsmouth University and was a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency Expert Group on Chernobyl. He is currently Chairman of the UK Coordinating Group on Environmental Radioactivity.

This event coincides with the Jane and Louise Wilson exhibition at the John Hansard Gallery, whose work features a series of large-scale photographs from their ongoing investigation into the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The exhibition continues until the 10 September 2011.
