Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day 2012

For January 2012‚ the Parkes Institute in partnership with Solent University is organising a full programme with schools and community groups for the commemoration of Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day.

The commemoration will be held at the Sir James Matthews Building, Southampton Solent University on Thursday 26th January 6-7pm.

The evening will include:

• Slides and music from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust

• Welcome by Phil Gibson and Rev Steve Hall

• Jenny Cuffe and guest on asylum and immigration

• The Multi Agency Group on Racial Harassment

• Students from Itchen College reflect on Holocaust testimony

• Students from the BA (Hons) Performance course at Southampton Solent University perform a short work based on the testimony of Alice Sommer Herz, a survivor of the Terezin concentration camp, led by Matt Fletcher

• Retiring Collection

Refreshments will be available directly after the event.

There will be an opportunity to talk informally with those at the event, receive a memorial candle and take Holocaust Memorial Day Trust literature

This is a non-ticketed event. All welcome.
