Guest lecture: Professor Weiying Zhang “China’s Economic Growth Trajectory” – 20th February 2012

The University of Southampton Confucius Institute and the Centre for Contemporary China are delighted to welcome Professor Weiying Zhang to speak on the future for the Chinese economy.

Professor Zhang is a former Dean of Peking University’s Guanghua Management School, and since 2002 has served as an Assistant President of Peking University. One of China’s foremost economists, his research interests include China’s industrial organisation, corporate governance, information economics, economics of law and most importantly China’s economic reform. He is widely recognised as an authority on the theory of the firm and ownership reform and his numerous published works are credited with having had significant impact on economic reform policies and the development of economics in China.

Professor Zhang received his M.Phil in 1992 and D.Phil in 1994, both from Oxford, before returning to Beijing where he co-founded Peking University’s Centre for Economic Research. In 1997 he moved to the Guanghua Management School and was appointed Dean in 2006.
