The Polish Awareness Day has been organised to promote tolerance and appreciation of diversity by giving the public an opportunity to better understand Polish culture and history.
The evening will be opened with a folklore-dance and song performance by a folklore group “Karpaty”, preceded by an introduction to the historical and cultural background. “Karpaty” has been in existence for more than 40 years and have danced both nationally and internationally, attending festivals, for charity events and private parties. Later in the evening an international group of students is going to stage a critically acclaimed 1964 Polish drama, S?awomir Mro?ek’s ‘Tango’. The play focuses on totalitarianism, anarchy and the permanent struggle of the youths to rebel against the way of life of the older generations. In the words of a critic, it has made Mro?ek one of the most recognizable Polish contemporary writers in the world, and a few words of introduction will also be given to enable the viewers to appreciate the complexity of the piece.
The celebrations will be held in Turner Sims on 11th March (Sunday) at 6pm. We welcome anyone interested in experiencing Polish culture.
Admission is free, however due to hall capacity limitations there is compulsory ticket booking on the website www.polsoc.co.uk.
