Thanks to all of you who responded to our call for sustainability ideas earlier in the year. We received an incredible 300 suggestions and are currently in the process of reviewing and responding to these. Over the next few months we will highlight some of the suggestions that have been acted on. Your ideas will be crucial to us meeting our ambitious carbon targets, so please keep sending them in.
All members of the University community are invited to join in the activities taking place on the Students’ Union concourse during Environment Week (23-27 April). On Thursday 26th April the sustainability team will be on hand to talk about the campaign, and you can also get a check-up with the Bike Doctor, visit the UniCycle sale and try out an electric bike.
Please remember that the Southampton Blackout will take place on the evening of Friday 27th April. It is important that you are aware of the impact of this event, so do read the news item here. This week is your last opportunity to opt out. An advice sheet for staff will be published later this week. For those of you involved in the event, the Twitter hashtag is #sotonblackout. The rest of the sector will be watching to see if we can pull it off!
Finally, following a successful Sustainable Behaviours workshop in February, which looked at how we can make small changes to how we work to reduce our environmental impact, we will be putting forward ideas for how to take this important strand of the campaign forward. A virtual group, which will include the University’s Sustainability Offices, will act as a sounding board for these ideas. If you would like to become a Sustainability Officer, join the virtual group, or find out more about the workshop, please contact Dr Neil Smith ([email protected]).
