New Equality and Diversity Website

The Diversity team have a great new website so visit www.soton.ac.uk/diversity to find out more about current news, events, religious festivals and important contacts, as well as staff networks and general advice and support.

Diversity Staff Events and Networks

Would you like to get involved with up-coming events on campus for both staff and students? Sunny Takhar, University Diversity Officer is currently looking for volunteers to help with Black History Month in October, Interfaith Week in November and any other cultural events you would like to see celebrated.

For more details please contact [email protected] or call her on x 29671.

New University Carers Network Group

Many of the University’s staff population have an additional role as a carer and incorporate this huge responsibility into their standard working week.

Lisa Then from Student Services is collaborating with the University’s Diversity Team to develop a Carers Network to support and facilitate the working lives of colleagues who are carers, for example, anyone looking after someone under 16 or not able to care for themselves due to old age or disability.

If you are a carer or have an interest in working to improve the lives of carers, please come along to the first lunchtime session at 1:00pm – 2:00pm on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 in Meeting Room 3121, Building 37 Highfield Campus. Lunch will be provided. Please email [email protected] if you wish to attend or are interested in future sessions.

Would you like to help someone by becoming a University Harassment Contact?

The University is currently recruiting more voluntary Harassment Contacts to help deliver the equality and diversity agenda. We already have a small committed team of Harassment Contacts but we would now like to strengthen the team to encompass a wider breadth of expertise and point of contact. The role of a Harassment Contact is to provide a confidential service to students and staff who feel bullied or harassed. They also support those who have been accused of harassment. So if you’re a good listener, can empathise with others and their situation and can help an individual make an informed decision then please contact [email protected]/x 29671 for more information.

Alternatively, please click here if you would like to get in touch with a Harassment Contact.
