The University’s Code of Practice for the selection of staff for the next research assessment exercise, REF 2014, is now available. Funds distributed from the last exercise held in 2008 total over £1.5 billion annually of which the University of Southampton receives some £40 million each year. The Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) is the new structure for assessing the quality of research in publicly-funded UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The code sets out the principles and processes and that will be followed by all staff involved in the selection of research that will be returned in REF 2014.
